Old film negatives have a certain appeal that I find irresistible. This is a scan from a 6cm x 12cm film format photograph that appears to have belonged to my paternal grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986).
On the back of this photograph is written – Ruby’s children, family of Kate Marriott Watson. Kate (1851-1943) being my grandmother’s grandmother. The Marriott line runs through our five times great grandfather George Marriott (1750-) and his daughter Angelina Marriott (1774-) who married my three times great grandfather Brereton Ross Porter Pemberton Rolla Watson (1804-1877). Angelina Marriott was Kate Marriott Watson’s grandmother.
Brereton Watson was of the line of Watson that purchased Rockingham Castle in Jutland from Henry VIII. The castle remains in Watson hands and, as I understand, it’s the only privately owned castle in England.
