Old Film:: The Motorbike (1940s-50s)
My father and his brothers were much younger than their sisters. So, while the boys were being boys in these photographs, I’ve scanned some interesting shots taken of the girls in what I guess would be their late teens to early twenties. The family lived in the rugged Tasmanian South West through the 1940s – 1950s. It was a hard working life. This photograph is scanned from a 6cm x 9cm film negative made by my grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986). I am led to understand this is auntie Betty and auntie Teeny with an unknown (to me) man. It’s strange seeing these pictures of young and vibrant girls when my memories and perceptions are of old women. We all have our season.
