Rossi Boots – Buy Australian

This week I bought my first pair of Rossi Shearers manufactured in Australia by an Australian owned company. I’ve moved into Shearers for two reasons.

The first reason is reputation. The Rossiter name and Rossi products are best quality and extremely comfortable by reputation. Particularly when I was doing farm work guys would mention their Shearers, and when I was growing up Rossi made the very best biker boots. Rossiter Pty Ltd was started in 1910 by Arthur Rossiter and remains to this day in family hands and management. Oh and Rossi have the coolest video for marketing boots, by a country mile. Blundestone, on the other hand, fail to grasp the value of being a culturally iconic company with a face. Big tick for Rossiter Pty Ltd.

The second reason is because Rossi’s are Australian owned and operated. My previous tradition for wearing boots over 30 years had been Blundestone, made just up the road. They moved offshore a couple of years ago and now manufacture in Indonesia. Locally, hundreds of jobs were lost. But, for the life of me, I’ll never purchase another set of Blundestone boots and I would hope that government organisations including prisons move from Blundestone to Rossi as a mainstay. The price is comparable, and the quality of Rossi is better.

There is also a third reason I migrated – Rossiter Pty Ltd cares about it’s customer. Blundestone couldn’t give a rat’s arse… (that’s a beautiful Australian saying – it implies there was a point when rat’s arses were given).

Moving from Blundestone into Rossi Shearers is like trading the Mitsubishi in for a sports sedan. I hope you consider moving to Rossi’s, too. Let’s help Australian companies who make world class products. By the way, if you’re purchasing Shearers in Hobart there are only three locations. Two of those are in Elizabeth Street directly across the road from each other. Jolly Swagman (aka Tradewear) charges $200 but cross the road to Country Leather and they’re only $150 plus they threw in a container of Leather Boot Wax – again, a company that cares. Support Country Leather, too.

P.S. Thankyou for the Stimulus Package Mr. Rudd. Greatly appreciated.

Ansel Adams: The Camera

As the first of three parts of Ansel Adams Photography Series, Ansel Adams: The Camera begins by discussing the idea of visualisation in relation to photography. Ansel Adams is a master of his craft; this series has sat on my backburner for some time. Book 2 in this series is The Negative and it's followed up by The Print. In them Ansel outlines his philosophy of photography rather than trying to lay down a set of rules. This first instalment is a technical book that explains the good old fashion film camera.
