Redesign Schmedesign
As you’ve probably already noticed there’s been a little bit of design work happening here finally, the product of actually getting motivated again to do design work. It’s taken several months of sitting around without pay to unwind after the undergraduate experience (yep graduation is on wednesday next week). I had intended to do a dramatic redesign but took Matt Robin’s advice and worked on the existing layout – in the true CSS fashion. Same website, changes to the stylesheet. It was important to me to use quite basic techniques for the redesign schmedesign so you won’t find any fancy selectors running around here… just the old stylesheets with small modifications.
So some people will like it and no doubt some will say it’s a crock of wet hammer slapped in their early morning foreheads. I’m not a prissy about that kind of rejection – and don’t take offence but fuck you if you don’t like it. I caught that off famous internet folks who talk at conferences and have important friends who write books and stuff. My about page has changed, too.
The todo list is pretty straight forward. Contact form and comment form may need some attention because they’re just too bland. Basic print stylesheets. The process pages after you send an email (or it gets rejected) could use some branding. The 404 page could be more interesting. Then comes that large elephant over in the corner – that IE6 and IE7 couple wearing black hats (or is that hearts).
Internet Explorer currently looks like crap and I’ll get onto that but it’s seriously not my priority this time around. It will get done when it gets done – but it WILL get done. The design may be reasonably different in some respects for those guys but that’s a part of my new strategy. I’m not responsible for the state of browser support for features and over time I’m moving to practices that differentiate, although don’t inhibit, those have-not Internet Explorer browsers.
That’s the strategy. Redesign schmedesign.
