Looking to Pick up New Contract Work

Due to unforeseen circumstances and my inability to economically compete with overseas wages I’m suddenly in the market for new part-time or full-time freelance / contract work.

I’m often perplexed by the willingness of companies in pursuit of contract workers to chase the lowest wages. I’ve found you basically get what you pay for in that department and buyer beware if you shop in Mumbai (or similar). But such is life I guess, and it all rolls onto the next bit of work.

The marketing question behind all that budget decision making of course comes right down to the pursuit of mediocrity. And why? I mean if there are a billion mediocre competitors then its just not great business to pursue the mediocre as a battle plan. But that’s business for you. Which is why I never work on budget projects.

So if you’re looking for a standardista with a little bit of brains and a lot of bottle, I’ve just come into about six weeks holiday and only have 1 unit left of my undergraduate computing degree. I’m not a bad catch for a 40 hour week position if you’re offering.

Now that holiday starts tomorrow. Woot.

Andy Clarke's Transcending CSS: the fine art of web design has been sitting on my bookshelf for several months and I've finally made the time to read it from end to end. My favourite thing about this book from the outset is that it's a designer's book, rather than a technician's manual, for web designers. The artwork and direction in Transcending CSS is enhanced by the attention to detail in the feel and texture of the book itself, the size of it's pages and the feel of the cover in your hands. It's definately a book that affords the act of being read. Looking forward to it.
