Nortypig, Work and Back to Uni

If you haven’t noticed there’s been a bit of movement going on overĀ at Nortypig as its returning to a links blog - replacing the Quick Directions I had on the right side of my home page here. It should be remarkably similar to the old Pig Pen which used to have a lot of traffic but we’ll have to see how that works out organically over the next year. I like having a searchable links blog because every so often it works out for me as a professional resource so the work pays off. Its just also available to anyone else rather than sitting on my desktop in some folder.

So what have you been doing? I’m just about all out of holidays with a site redesign launching tomorrow and a pile of books that need to be read over the next two weeks - The Elements of Typographic Style, How to be a graphic designer, without losing your soul and Cradle to Cradle. I’ve read quite a lot over the new year break and helped my partner with a few templates she’s needed refined and polished on the old validator. Its good for the soul.

My holiday also saw me dig out the hedge down the side of our property and we had a new picket fence erected. Now I need to find time before it rains too hard to build those steps and pathways that are currently clay traps for size nine boots like mine…

Next week I plan to rebuild the templates for this site and Nortypig from vanilla so they’re cleaner and the stylesheets won’t have spaghetti goo and other people’s toffee - that’s been shitting me off for some time.

I guess the holiday’s over and university starts back in a week - I’ve got Software Engineering Project A and Software Engineering Project B to do and I can graduate. Now that will be like shining a new bike with an old tshirt… oh and my sister and brother-in-law are coming down from Queensland next week. I guess that’s my holiday over then… oh and happy Valentine’s Day Linden.

Andy Clarke's Transcending CSS: the fine art of web design has been sitting on my bookshelf for several months and I've finally made the time to read it from end to end. My favourite thing about this book from the outset is that it's a designer's book, rather than a technician's manual, for web designers. The artwork and direction in Transcending CSS is enhanced by the attention to detail in the feel and texture of the book itself, the size of it's pages and the feel of the cover in your hands. It's definately a book that affords the act of being read. Looking forward to it.
