2 Days in Paris (Movie Review)

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

My partner Linden won two free tickets to see 2 Days in Paris at the State Cinema in North Hobart so last night we went to the movies. I like the design of the new State Cinema site even if I’d have built it without using tables and with ems for font sizing etc… but that’s another story.

The shortest answer to a review of this movie is that if you want to go somewhere which includes most of the theatre laughing out loud through most of the movie then this is a great night out. One liners like “Sex is good” and “No you look fat but you look good” and “the mothers a slut too” get instant laughs.

Its a relationship movie, an american out of his depth in Paris suffering major culture shock. It really doesn’t get better than my favourite character, Marion’s father, walking down the street keying cars for parking on the sidewalk and having an over-exuberant interest in the perverted (maybe that’s unfair). Her father also thinks Jack isn’t as stupid as the other morons Marion has brought home.

Ansel Adams: The Camera

As the first of three parts of Ansel Adams Photography Series, Ansel Adams: The Camera begins by discussing the idea of visualisation in relation to photography. Ansel Adams is a master of his craft; this series has sat on my backburner for some time. Book 2 in this series is The Negative and it's followed up by The Print. In them Ansel outlines his philosophy of photography rather than trying to lay down a set of rules. This first instalment is a technical book that explains the good old fashion film camera.
